“The Greener Green Laser” – DX Series Nanosecond Green Laser Honored by 2021 Laser Focus World Innovators Awards | Dr. Joyce Kilmer, jkilmer@photonix.com

Photonics Industries’ DX Series Nanosecond Green Laser, “the greener green laser”, is honored with the 2021 Laser Focus World Innovator Award for exemplary energy efficiency, very low power consumption, and overall sustainable production criteria.

The DX 532nm “greener green” nanosecond laser not only was awarded for high energy efficiency, but we would like to note it is manufactured in a sustainable solar-powered facility, and conveniently also finds many end uses in photovoltaic manufacturing. Thus, the full life cycle of the DX 532nm is maximally sustainable.

The “greener green laser” was recognized among the best by the 2021 Laser Focus World Innovators Awards. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the optics and photonics community recognized Photonics Industries as a Laser Focus World Innovators Awards honoree. “On behalf of the Laser Focus World Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Photonics Industries on their Laser Focus World Innovators Awards honoree status,” said Laser Focus Word Publisher Paul Andrews. “This competitive program allows Laser Focus World to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the photonics community this year.”

Wind and solar are the main pillars of green energy solutions today. But at what cost? There is a desire to not only find greener “more environmentally friendly” ways of producing energy but also lower the carbon footprint associated with the manufacture of these green technologies. Combined with reshoring initiatives from regional governments, today, we are seeing more value placed on sustainable production criteria.

For solar energy, Photovoltaics (PV) are the “ordre du jour”, but in most all PV manufacturing, laser are required for the various manufacturing processing whether it is for P1, 2 or 3 scribes of thin film solar or the PERC processing for c-Si based solar cells, More energy efficient lasers requiring less energy to operate, help reduce operational expenses and manufacturing costs, as well as, lower the carbon foot print of the laser based PV manufacturing process.

Toward that end, Photonics Industries introduces the “greener” green laser with an astounding >23% wall plug efficiency — the highest conversion efficiency! The DX-532-65 high rep rate green diode pumped solid state laser can deliver as much as ~73W of green (532nm) optical output power while only consuming ~320W of electrical power from the outlet in the wall!
